New Tunnels Along California Coast; Conquering Hells Canyon; Baltimore Beyond the Grit

Devil's Slide in California

Here is a round-up of the most recent USA travel articles that caught my eye:

  • California is set to open two tunnels along the coast south of San Francisco. "Unlike those tunnels built to relieve commuter congestion, this new pair, 15 miles south of San Francisco, will divert a treacherous 1.2-mile stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway that constantly erodes and frequently collapses." [Skift]
  • Hells Canyon in Idaho is North America's deepest canyon, surpassing even the scary depths of the Grand Canyon. Steve Graepel chronicles his attempt at climbing and hiking from rim to rim and shares some amazing photos. [National Geographic Adventure Blog]
  • Mention Baltimore and all anyone ever talks about is The Wire and the Ravens (and maybe the Orioles, if it's summer). Writing for The Washington Post, Marc Fisher takes a trip up I-95 to rediscover the swanky and kitschy bits of Charm City. [The Washington Post]
