While reading this mesmerizing, multimedia piece from the New York Times about an avalanche in the Cascades in February 2012, I came across the town of Leavenworth, Washington. Situated about two hours east of Seattle in the Cascade Mountains, the former logging town of Leavenworth re-branded itself in the early 1960s as a Bavarian-style village. This photo, submitted for this week's #FriFotos theme "festive," shows Leavenworth at Christmas, one of the most popular times to visit because of its Lighting Festival. The town looks absolutely inviting to me and somehow warm despite all the snow.
In the meantime, I'm taking a short break from posting on the blog until after the Christmas holidays. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!
