#FriFotos - A Peek at Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak

When I heard that the #FriFotos theme for this week was "peak," I instantly thought of Pikes Peak, a mountain not far from my mother's childhood home near Colorado Springs. Named for American army officer Zebulon Pike, Jr., who led an expedition here in 1806, Pikes Peak is one of more than 50 mountains in Colorado that rises more than 14,000 feet and the easternmost "fourteener" mountain in the United States.

Today's photo, which comes courtesy of Beverly and Pack on Flickr, is a well-framed peek of Pikes Peak taken from the Garden of the Gods, a popular hiking and rock-climbing spot in Colorado Springs. Besides loving the fact that this photo is a play on the words peek and peak, I like how this photograph is evocative of Colorado's red rock geology and Rocky Mountain scenery.
